Harmful Foods for Kidney Stones
The kidneys sift waste and salts from our system. When surplus of certain categories of wastes build up, the kidneys may not be able to filter it completely, thus those wastes can structure into crystal like stuff starting the beginning of Kidney Stones. As the crystals get bigger and mass together, that’s what creates the kidney stones. Eating the right foods in the right amounts will help to prevent kidney stones.

Foods High in Calcium Foods High in Calcium. Foods providing a plentiful supply of Calcium, which prevents the absorption of large quantities of oxalate from the intestine which would lead to an increase in its excretion in the urine. Example is spinach with a cheese gratin.

Foods High in Animal Protein A disproportionate eating of Animal Protein increases the risk of stone. Urine is acidified in excess and the excretion of oxalate, calcium and uric acid increases, while the emission of citrate that provides shield against stone formation is diminished.
Foods Rich in Sodium. The Sodium in food increases the hazard of stone formation, probably by increasing the urinary excretion of calcium. Sodium is found in common salt. a radical decrease of salt in diet leads to a decrease in urinary volume resulting in stone formation.

Purines.

An elevated ingestion of purines can boost the quantity of uric acid in the urine. Those at risk for uric acid stones should reduce their intake of foods and beverages that contain purines.
- The Foods High in Oxalate.
The consumption of foods with high oxalate content should always be kept to a minimum. Examples are Spinach, Rhubarb, Beetroot, Chard and Nuts.
To eliminate the formation of calcium oxalate stones that affect approximately 75% of the Kidney Stone sufferers, oxalate intake needs to be reduced. Foods high in oxalate are:-

- Collards
- Dandelion greens
- Eggplant
- Green Beans, snap, pod
- Kale
- Leeks
- Okra

- Parsnips
- Peppers, green
- Pokeweed
