Hemorrhoids are vascular structures in the anal canal which help with stool control. Sometimes these veins become swollen and painful; in some cases these veins heal by themselves and cause no permanent problem, but in other cases they can cause continuous pain, itching and blood in stool. What you eat is extremely important in this disease; foods causing constipation can aggravate this condition and can cause considerable pain.

Any food that can cause constipation is one to avoid, at least in large quantities. Many refined sugars and starches are examples, such as pastries and white breads, along with most pasta. Add following items to your diet and you would get considerable relief from pain:-

  1. Warm Water. Drinking a lot of water can considerably decrease constipation and reduce straining of Bowel movement.

    Fiber may soften the stool and reduce associated pain from swollen hemorrhoids. Psyllium is an annual plant of the plantain family with edible seeds; the seeds of psyllium are mild laxative and a good source of source of dietary fiber.

  3. Probiotics. Probiotics are substances containing live microorganisms that claim to be beneficial to humans and animals, e.g. by restoring the balance of micro flora in the digestive tract.

    Consume yogurt or kefir containing live active cultures, such as lactobacillus or bifidus, on a routine basis. Drinking kefir may also help reduce dehydration and stimulate bowel movements.

  4. Green Tea. Green tea is made from the leaves from Camellia sinensis that have undergone minimal oxidation during processing.

  5. Whole Grain Foods. Whole Grains provide Fiber, nutrients and proteins, eating whole grain foods in lieu of refined grain foods can help you to reduce constipation and reduce pain.

    21 to 38 grams of fiber is recommended in your daily diet intake.

  6. Fruits and Vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are generally high in fibers and thus are helpful for hemorrhoids. Fruits and vegetables also add bulk to your stool and may reduce strain and pain during bowel movements. Fruits and vegetables particularly high in fiber include berries, apples, pears, avocados, artichokes, peas, broccoli, dark leafy greens, beans and winter squash.
